Well, I’m sure you were as shocked as I was when you heard that American (and international) ‘pop star’ (The King of Pop), Michael Jackson died today (or yesterday as I write this) at the young age of 50. It is actually a strange thing to me, probably because my psyche, along with most the rest of the world, bought into the idea that Michael (amongst other “stars”) was “bigger than life;” not that I held this belief consciously or intellectually — but as a latent “unchecked” belief, that was just “checked” today. It is just hard to accept the idea that Michael Jackson is actually dead.
But, as a Christian, my heart truly breaks for Jackson; because I know that he isn’t really dead (well he most likely is, spiritually). If he stayed consistent with his Jehovah’s Witness belief system, then he has stepped into eternity separated from the life of God forever (awaiting his judgment in Hades, where he will remain until that ominous day of judgment known as the Great White Throne). This is what breaks my heart, for Michael. And his life illustrates where a false belief system can lead, it leads away from the true God; and finally ends up in a terrible place . . . I really cannot stand to contemplate this, for Michael, or anyone.
If anything, things like this (Michael’s death), should prompt all Christians; remind every true believer, of the urgency to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ! As Paul says, “today is the day of salvation;” and, “faith comes by hearing, hearing the Word of God, but how will they hear if no one is sent?” We need to be vigilant in our lives of “ambassadorship;” which requires that we walk with an eternal perspective, and realize how urgent “time” really is. Michael’s death should be one more reminder of how urgent the times are!
